WaterWise Demonstration Garden

Woodinville Water
District installed our first waterwise demonstration garden in 1993 to
provide customers with information and techniques to achieve a healthy, waterwise landscape. Each year we hold a Spring Garden Fair, hosting
seminars on waterwise gardening topics taught by local horticulture
experts.
In fall 1999 we had
to dismantle our demonstration garden due to planned construction. We
were not able to save our plant material due to the length of
construction. We provided much of the plant material to other public
facilities. Northshore School District’s Woodinville High School,
Secondary Academy for Success (SAS) and Cottage Lake Elementary all
received plants for gardens they were starting. In addition, Lake
Washington Technical College’s Environmental Horticultural Program
received many perennials to divide and grow to help support their
program.

In
summer 2003 our new demonstration garden was installed. Customers are
invited to stop by and take aself-guided tour. Plants are numbered
and a corresponding plant list is available outside. Other waterwise
gardening brochures called “The Naturals” are also available onsite. They
are also available online at:

The creation of
educational signage was made possible through WaterWorks, the King
County Water Quality Block Grant awarded by the King
County Department
of Natural Resources and Parks.
